Notes: Oriented with north to the right.  Depths shown by soundings; soundings shown in fathoms.  Includes latitude and longitude.  Based on Walter Hoxton's 1735 chart, but much improved by information from Joshua Fry and Peter Jefferson's Map of the Most Inhabited Parts of Virginia and Smith's own surveys.  Includes navigational sightings, towns, forts, names of landowners, plantations, some industries, and place names.  Includes directions for sailing into the James River, between the middle ground and the horse shoe, and from Love Point into Patapsco River; observations on the northeast current on the coast of Virginia and the Patowmack River.  Includes contemporary information: "Norfolk burnt January the 1st, 1776."
