This guide lists all known collections of public records and private papers relating to Gloucester County and its residents for the period 1651 to 1865. Since the court records were lost by fire, the private records take on greater significance. Also, duplicates of official records filed with the state are listed, and these serve to fill in some of the gaps. These and other official records, combined with the private papers will serve to help researchers develop a more comprehensive history of Gloucester County. An excellent research tool for those interested in exploring their family history and genealogy.
