Notes: One map on two sheets. Shows forts and batteries in the District of Columbia and immediate vicinity, vegetation, counties, railroads, names of residents and boundaries, and street patterns of Washington, Georgetown, and Alexandria. Relief shown by hachures. Depths shown by soundings. Accompanied by photocopy of original map cover indicating provenance: "Copy No. 15, presented to Prof. Geo. C. Scheffer with respects of Lt Col Macomb A.D.C ... now belongs to E.M. Schaeffer M.D., Washington D.C., June 1882. N.B., The pencil additions in lower part of the map are, I think, by Col. Macomb., E.M.S." Map annotated with similar statement. Includes "Data used in compilation," table of "Elevations above tide water," and "Geological profile of Loudoun County."
